History of Frome Court
Frome Court in Bartestree is a Grade II listed building designed with typical Gothic flare by the architect EW Pugin in 1863.
The Convent of Our Lady of Charity & Refuge was founded in 1863 and paid for by Robert Biddulph Phillips of Longworth.
The convent closed in 1992.
EW Pugin was the son of the famous architect Augustus Pugin, whose many ecclesiastical works include St Chad's Cathedral in Birmingham. He also worked on the interiors of the Palace of Westminster or Houses of Parliament. Edward Welby clearly inherited his father's passion for designing places of worship.
The relocated Longworth chapel on the site is cared for by the Historic chapels trust.
